The Secret Garden
The South West corner of the churchyard wall houses an old oak door locked and half buried. It was the gate which the Earls of Powis used to access Christ Church after walking along the footpath across the outer park from Powis Castle. With the kind permission of the Trustees of Powis Castle Estate we have transformed this overgrown entrance into a garden which is our very own private sanctuary from the toils of restoration. It proved to be a restoration project in itself. We started digging to access the door and revealed stone flagstones which lead onto a walled path going through the hollow in the field. After endlessly digging out the brambles and receiving some disappointing frowns from local blackberry pickers, the flower garden was planted either side of the path and mowing the field grass has created the lawn for the children to play on.
