Farewell apple… and hello oak
This month concludes our year ‘following’ the apple tree in the churchyard. It has been fascinating watching it subtly change over the seasons. We were full of optimism that the extra light and air that the apple tree was getting that we may be in for a good harvest. However the tree suffered blossom wilt which resulted in just…

the apple tree in february
Standing here I thought that not a lot had changed with the Apple tree this month, and I wondered how this post would be different to last month. But the beauty of this project is that it makes you take a longer, closer look and take note of the subtle changes. This month it was what surrounded the tree…

The winds have stripped the leaves off the apple tree. They lie on the ground scattered amongst the gravestones. The ivy berries are growing. The beginnings of next spring’s leaf buds are there… waiting. Joining in with Loose and Leafy’s ‘Tree Following’ project.

the apple tree – july
The apple tree seems to be recovering from its bout of Blossom Wilt, with lots of new green leaves replacing the shriveled brown ones of last month. And look… a single apple! I’ve scoured the tree and I’m pretty sure this is the only apple there. And even more bizarre, a single blossom. At least I have a…

the apple tree – june
There is something strange happening to the apple tree in the churchyard this month. After being smothered in beautiful blossom, the leaves are now turning brown! This does not seem at all right. There are no little apples forming which would be expected by now. It almost looks like blight, but I’m not sure if apple trees get…
