A little bit finished!
Finally we have a finished room! Its all very exciting, especially for Owen who has vacated ‘The Hut’ and moved in! It took a while to do all the finishing touches like skirting boards, hanging and painting doors, but its all been worth it as we’re really pleased with the finished result. Its wonderful to see all our ideas come…

A busy summer…
The last pieces of the giant jigsaw puzzle of the downstairs floor have been completed by Karl relaying the Minton encaustic tiles. They originally surrounded the Font. We have compacted the original design to fill in the gap in the centre and kept to laying the tiles diagonally. We are thrilled with the results and it makes an interesting feature…

The return of the floor
This week and last, a work of art has been taking shape with the return of the original flooring in the ‘house’ end of the church. We lifted it some time ago to install underfloor heating. We have redesigned the flooring from its original position. It was a patchwork of yellow tiles and flagstones. Now all the yellow tiles are…

House taking shape…
Work continues on the house. Boys bedrooms have just been plastered. Got professionals in and they did an excellent job. Can start thinking about paint colours. Exciting! Karl conducted heating trials over Christmas, after connecting the underfloor heating to the boiler by installing the manifold. It works! What a relief. Lovely to hear the boiler working away, that alone makes…

It’s been a quiet few months here at Christ Church. Karl has been working on the roof of the boys bedrooms, insulating and putting down boards. This will then have a rubber flooring and become an attic/play area. My days fly by with caring for the boys. Victor is doing very well and he is an absolute delight. Maternity leave…

Out of the ground!
Saturday was a landmark day. It marked the end of what seemed like endless digging out of earth inside the church to create this house. It marked the end of having a digger in the ‘living room’ (after 4 years!). It marked the end of picking our way over boards to get to the bathroom and kitchen sink. Saturday was…

Solid walls!
Karl has been working so hard on the house during the record breaking freezing cold temperatures in the church. I can hardly bear to be out there but most evenings Karl somehow manages it, and after being at work all day. Stud walls are now made solid with plasterboard. The bedrooms are beginning to feel like proper rooms. The first…

Season’s Greetings
It’s late on Christmas Eve but wanted to take this opportunity to wish all the very best of the Season’s Greetings from a very snowy Christ Church. The house build has progressed over the last few weeks with flooring and stud walls appearing upstairs. It’s amazing as you can really make sense of the layout and see the shape of…

Back to plastering
After a long delay, have finally got back into plastering mode. Need to put the lime finishing coat onto the original lime plaster. We had to scrape the original masonry paint off as the walls weren’t able to breathe and consequently the original lime final coat came off with the paint. The priority is to work on the wall of…

The House Build
We have completed erecting the steel framework for the extension of the gallery floor. Once the floors and ceiling are boarded and the stud work walls are in place, this will form the bedrooms in the house. Our aim is to complete these rooms first. On the ground floor we have put a block wall in the north aisle arch…
