A year of Image of the Week!
It has been a whole year that we’ve been taking an ‘Image of the Week’. It’s been a wonderful process, photographing something which catches our eye in or around the church each week. Some weeks the image jumps out at me, and I’m well prepared come Sunday when I aim to post them. Others however remain hidden to me until…

Painted landscapes
We were stuck indoors today due to heavy rain, so had to make do with the landscape views which have been painted onto the stained glass windows. This is part of a window in memory of Lady Violet of Powis Castle and is one I never tire of looking at, as it has so much detail and pattern. Image of…

The Coronation window
The Coronation window. 60 years ago today was the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. There’s an interesting article by the BBC here about the ‘dazzling spectacle, solemn pledges and soaring music’ on the day. Image of the Week #37

Evening light
The sunlight through the clerestory window caught my eye one evening this week. I love the pattern of the glass reflecting off the wall, with all its handmade imperfections and even the grime adding to the effect! Image of the Week #34

On this day… Lady Violet, Countess of Powis
On this day in 1929, Lady Violet of Powis Castle tragically died in a car accident at the age of 63. I believe the accident occured near the Rhallt on the outskirts of Welshpool. This was a devastating loss to her husband, George Herbert, 4th Earl of Powis. He installed a memorial window for her here in the south east corner…

Wishing you all a good long Easter weekend. Ours consists of spending time with family, a couple of bracing walks, an egg hunt in the garden, followed…

Lady Violet’s Window
This week’s Image of the Week is of the stained glass window in memory of Lady Violet which was erected by her husband, George Herbert, the 4th Earl of Powis. A recent Twitter conversation with our rather grand neighbours, Powis Castle prompted me to use this as Image of the Week. They are a great ‘follow’ and have been my…

On this day…
120 years ago today, the birth of Percy Robert Herbert, Viscount Clive of Powis Castle, was greeted by the bells being rung at St Mary’s and much rejoicing in the town. One of our favourite windows here is dedicated to his memory and was featured as Image of the Week #8. Happy Birthday!

Lime Wash… Round 2
We have taken down the scaffold tower that has been in the corner of the gallery (our future bedroom) for the last year. Can now have a good view of a little finished corner of the house. Can also have a good view of my first attempt at lime washing. Generally I’m really pleased with the lime wash. I’m mixing…
