Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
We are just about all set for Christmas, with our ‘Christmas Area’ cleared and arranged. The tree is not quite as majestic as we’ve had in the past, but it is still rather nice in it’s own humble way. It is nice having a ‘real’ tree as they are always so different from year to year. At least with a…

A Fleeting Moment
Over the past few days we have been clearing and sweeping, getting a ‘Christmas Area’ ready. I love these days, Karl hates them! I just had to post a picture of this clear space, as these are fleeting moments. Nothing stays clear for long round here, in fact barely long enough for me to take this picture. This space will…

Lime Wash… Round 2
We have taken down the scaffold tower that has been in the corner of the gallery (our future bedroom) for the last year. Can now have a good view of a little finished corner of the house. Can also have a good view of my first attempt at lime washing. Generally I’m really pleased with the lime wash. I’m mixing…

Repurposed and upcycled!
Many years ago (maybe in the 1950’s) a cupboard was made underneath the stone stairs that lead up to the gallery. Some old school desks (possibly from the Christ Church School next door) were carefully taken apart to construct the cupboard. This beautiful old wood has been repurposed for the second time in its life, as we have used some…

Image of the Week #7
The stairs in the base of the Tower, which lead up to the Gallery in the Nave. It has stone steps cantilevered out of the wall, with metal spindles and hand rail. This inspired us in the design of our new staircase.

A variety of jobs…
An overview of what we’ve been working on over the last few weeks… Choosing paint colours for the stairs. We both thought blue, but there are so many… While thinking colours, we’re planning which colour to do up on the landing. My current thinking is warm and rich, to welcome you as you go to bed, in contrast to the…

Staircase
Yesterday was one of those good days when big things happen and the house build seems to take a leap forward. The staircase, made by Craig, was installed. It was an incredibly complicated staircase to make due to the height and turns that it had to make. There was more head scratching yesterday getting it to fit in some tight…

Stairs under construction…
After much thought, debate, head scratching and measuring, our staircase is currently being made! We decided on metal with thick oak treads. This allows us to easily cantilever off a central steel post and is less intrusive, especially with the use of parallel side bars instead of a solid side plate. We drew inspiration from the existing gallery stair case…

Pinterest
Recently I have been enjoying putting together ‘boards’ of inspirational images and ideas on Pinterest. I have been ripping images out of magazines and filing them for years, and this is an on line version of that. You can see what inspires us for the overall look of the house, with things that we like… and some things that we…

Video
Take a look at this great video filmed on Sunday’s Open Day by our talented friend Mike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqODCkHMRRU&feature=em-share_video_user One day we’ll reminisce about all our clutter on the pews and the piles of insulation everywhere!
