Trelystan Church
An area on our doorstep which, ashamedly, we have hardly explored is Long Mountain and the parish of Trelystan. Needing to stretch our legs and our eyes, we set about putting this right. Walking over farmland the winter landscape was beautiful in the ever changing light. We found the delightful Trelystan Church, literally in the middle of nowhere. No surrounding…

Exploring the churchyard of St. Michaels, Trefeglwys.
We had a family day out walking in the hills of Trefeglwys, which is Karl’s childhood stomping ground and we couldn’t resist exploring the churchyard. The slate headstones were beautiful. I could have spent hours photographing each individual one! The weathered colours, the Victorian designs and the lettering were fascinating and inspiring… I shall let the photographs speak…

Bradford Cathedral It’s been a time of change for our family… Owen has flown the Christ Church nest to study at The University of Bradford. It has been a nerve wracking week of preparations – for him and ourselves, but as soon as we got there he happily embraced his new life. We had a wonderful weekend exploring Bradford. Such…

Fred’s 2 peak challenge
Fred undertook a personal challenge of conquering the summits of Snowdon and Cnicht in two consecutive days and raising money for Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s Dolforwyn Woods Appeal. holidaying
Beddgelert This past week we’ve been away holidaying in the mountains of Snowdonia. We hauled the caravan to Beddgelert and enjoyed days of walking up and down mountains, exploring castles, cycling in forests, flying over slate quarries (for some of us!) and running through the waves on the beach. More blog posts to follow showing some of our adventures. Image…

Christ Church from the air
An unusual view of Christ Church! Image of the Week #86 There have been some significant birthdays in the family recently, not least our eldest son turning 18 (how did that happen so quickly!) so something a little different to remember the day – a short helicopter ride to have an unusual perspective of the locality. Karl, Owen, Fred…

discovering a ruined chapel…
On Easter Sunday we were out in the foothills of Cadair Idris, near Dolgellau, on a lovely springtime walk. We passed a ruined chapel which, of course, we had to explore… Penmaen Chapel, Islawr Dref, was a Calvanistic Methodist chapel built in 1883. The roof has gone and the walls are slowly crumbling away. Amazingly some of…
