Sweeping and weeding…
We are having a very busy week, preparing for Saturday’s Open Day. The church has been swept and tidied up, information panels updated and added too and all the displays set up. We were prompted to do this a little ahead of schedule, as we had a visit yesterday from Penybontfawr WI. As part of their summer trip, they came…

Now Showing… no more
We were all really saddened to read on My Welshpool that the Pola Cinema is to close its doors later today. This family run, independent cinema has been such a huge credit to Welshpool. Since living here, we have enjoyed the privilege of being able to walk down to the Pola to watch the latest blockbuster. How amazing that you…

A break away… Dolgellau
Earlier this week we had a few days away in our beloved caravan to Dolgellau. It’s only an hour up the road, but the dramatic landscape makes it feel a world away. The mountains, the woods, the farmland with its dry stone walls, the cuckoos… all make it a wonderful place to explore. The weather was mixed, but we had…

No comet but a beautiful moon
One very cold evening earlier this week, we went out into the churchyard comet spotting. Unfortunately we couldn’t see comet panSTARRS even though it was a beautifully clear sky. I think the hill and trees obscured our view but the trees did make some amazing silhouettes. The crescent moon was so sharp and crisp. Image of the Week #26

An evening of sandwiches, scones and dancing!
We held a tea party here after school yesterday for all the Canadian exchange students and their hosts. It was their final day in Welshpool, before setting out very early this morning to fly back to Canada. Owen gave them a tour of the church and the tower (which they loved, I’ve just been told!), before they sat down to…

Furniture shopping
A recent visit to our local antique store proved very fruitful. I was looking for some small shelves for Owen’s room, which I happily found and snapped up just in time as a lady came in just after me and wanted them! While I was chatting to Melvyn, the owner of Lamplite Antiques, I spotted the most beautiful Victorian table.…
