Stairs under construction…
After much thought, debate, head scratching and measuring, our staircase is currently being made!
We decided on metal with thick oak treads. This allows us to easily cantilever off a central steel post and is less intrusive, especially with the use of parallel side bars instead of a solid side plate. We drew inspiration from the existing gallery stair case which has stone steps with steel spindles and hand rail.
This is the first ‘simple’ section to be constructed. The stairs have three turns, so the maths start to get complicated for the subsequent sections.
Can’t wait for it to be installed as it’s one of the biggest features we’re putting in. It’ll vastly increase our ability to use the upstairs space, as currently it’s strictly off bounds for the younger sons!
Now I just need to decide what colour to paint them… my favourite bit!
