Happy 150th Birthday!

Today marks the 150th Birthday of the 4th Earl of Powis, George Charles Herbert. He was a great benefactor to Christ Church and is buried along side his family just outside the church. He married Lady Violet in 1890 and had three children, two sons and a daughter. Unfortunately both of his sons died young, killed in action in both the first and second world wars, therefore his life was tinged with tragedy. Both he and Lady Violet were great visionaries and he was responsible for leaving Powis Castle in the care of The National Trust upon his death in 1952, at the age of 90.
