Bee-Flies

I was in the garden getting some flowers when I saw a type of fly which looked just like a bee. It had a very long tongue and it was flying to a flower sticking its tongue into the flowers to get the nectar. I recorded this video to show you what I saw.

I searched it up on the internet and it was called a bee-fly. They are very common to see at the end of March to April and they like to feed on spring flowers. Did you know, that its long tongue is called a proboscis and it’s used to easily get the nectar from flowers while it hovers.

I was able to record my sighting with iRecord as part of Bee-fly Watch 2020.
