Spotted Spotted Flycatchers!
Today I finally managed to positively identify a little brown bird that I kept catching a glimpse of in the churchyard. I suspected that it was a Spotted Flycatcher, by it’s distinctive flight. They fly out from their perch and in a flurry catch a fly and return to their perch.
I used my zoom lense to get a good view to be sure they were flycatchers. On closer inspection they really are quite beautiful. They have a spotted breast, sit very upright and are a joy to watch with their fly catching acrobats.
They have a red conservation status with the RSPB so when I saw not one but two of them today, I was very pleased as hopefully they are breeding here!
